Arena Sport Commentary – 1 February

It’s Friday and that means that if you’re anything like me you want to kick the work vibe into touch, do and read as little as possible and get the weekend underway immediately! In celebration of people who share my sentiments I’m keeping the Arena Sport Commentary today short, to the point and strictly ‘need to know’. As you were.
Commentary compiled by Gareth Rosslee.

Low scoring dominated the first rounds on the PGA and European tours yesterday. South African Richard Sterne blasted 62 in Dubai while Phil Mickelson came within a whisker of shooting 59. [ESPN]

David Beckham has signed for PSG and promised to donate his salary to charity. [Daily Maverick]

Yesterday I noted that Sir Clive Woodward was signed up to the Daily Mail to give comment on the Six Nations. Well, he’s controversial from the very first sentence in his first column. [Daily Mail]

A second half melt-down against Samoa and a loss to Canada has the Blitzbokke reeling in Wellington. Paul Treu’s men are ravaged by injury, but won’t be happy with the performance. Full round-up for those who didn’t wake up in the middle of the night. [IRB Sevens]

Have a good chuckle at Peter Odemwingie who tried to force a move from West Brom to QPR only to be barred from the stadium, fined two weeks wages, forced to crawl back with his tail between his legs and generally end up looking a right tit. [Guardian]

Dani Alves speaks out about rampant racism in Spanish football. Yesterday we hailed Jozi Altidore for his handling of an issue in Holland and we must applaud Alves for speaking out. When will FIFA act? [Guardian]

I’ve got quite into Super Bowl XLVII – if not for watching the actual game, but from following the hype. Here are some of the much anticipated commercials. [thenosebleeds.com]

A great long read from Head Start Sport about singing when you’re winning and not smiling when you’re losing. [Head Start Sport]

Hashim The Great! Outstanding feature from the CSA magazine that we ran yesterday on Arena. Have a read ahead of the Test match today. [Arena Sport]

Cape Town Tens kicks off today – so make sure you’re following our Essential Twitter Follow. [Arena Sport] http://www.arenasport.co.za/2013/01/31/essential-twitter-follows-4-bob-skinstad/

It’s Friday so why not kick things off with this brilliant surfing pic. [2OceansVibe]
